Gilmer Meet Recap-

Gilmer Meet Recap-

When you can’t go any further…you dig a little deeper. And that is exactly what occurred this past Saturday at the Gilmer Invitational for THE PACK. Bringing home much more then hardwear (which we brought home our fair share), but for the Panthers and Lady Panthers XC teams the search was personal records and fighting for you team.

Starting off the day were the JH girls, racing against large and small schools the young runners took off to chase down the finish line. Crossing the finish line first for the Lady Panthers was 8th grader Marissa Seyer, coming in 6th place, followed closely by teammate 7th grader Samantha Schott in 7th. And from there the rest of the Lady Panthers, including Seyer and Schott, finished the two mile race posting far faster times then before, proving once again hardwork pays off.

Next up were the JH boys, and from the start, and the mighty shout of “PANTHERS”, these young runners set their eyes and mind to victory. Working as team, stride for stride they passed district contenders and ran faster and faster. And coming off a weekend of the best runners in Texas, these boys had the confidence to run harder then ever. First for the boys was 8th Grader Austin Martin, follwed by teammate and classmate Mason Hancock, who paired the race and moved eachother to the finish. And from there the reality of these young runners became evident, that together they can achieve far beyond anyting they could ever imiagine. And they did. Each posting a time a min to two min faster then weeks before. They are ready to take on distict, together.

Next up were the Varsity races. For the girls three storng and ready to finish, they raced on. And for freshmen Kinsey Smith, it was the race that proved she has what it takes to make things happen in the world of running. Coming across the finish line in 1st place, racing against strong regional contender Van and other district opponents, everything came together to help her bring home gold. And teammate Julie Hodges and Avery Barnhill, recorded PRs for the season as well.

For the Varsity and JV boys, the tone had been sent at 8:30am. And it was up to them to keep the energy alive. And they did. In an astonishing race, senior Kase White posted a personal best on the course and taking his teammate along for the ride, as each and every teammate to follow did the same. And for the JV boys, five strong and the last race of the day…they ensured that SH left just as we started…dropping times and leaving our MARK. We will be back to chase down, not only the gator and district opponets, but the district crown on OCT 19th.
